Failure as Appetizers
I've fallen on my face - and had my world cave in on me - more times than I can count in thirty plus years. You probably have, too, and gotten the same, "just keep going!" chipper messaging from well meaning friends, and sometimes that's great, and sometimes it's like, "Oh my GOSH shut UP."
What if you're broke, or just exhausted, or your life shifted around and now you need that cash money? Well, take a second. You can't keep going without gas in your tank. Pause. Recalibrate your vision if you need to. Pivot. Refuel. Re-evaluate your goals.
There's a difference between quitting and taking a break, and some of the most successful people I admire have taken pauses and sabbaticals in their careers at some point. You're not failing at your dream because you got a job at Starbucks to pay your rent and get health insurance.
And although you might be dealing with a doozy of a situation, rolling your eyes thinking, "My god. Not another 'life lesson'!" keep in mind the wise words of my friend Laura's fortune cookie: Success won't taste so good, without Failure as appetizers."
